Halloween safety tips

🧒 Kids and parents

  • Trick-or-treat before dark if you can.
  • Kids under 10 should have an adult with them to cross streets.
  • Older kids should go in a group on a planned, well-lit route.
  • Cross at corners and crosswalks, and look left, right, left.
  • Use sidewalks. If there aren’t any, walk facing traffic.
  • Wear reflective tape and light colors, and carry a flashlight or glow stick.
  • Choose face paint over masks that block your view.

🚗 Drivers

  • Slow down in neighborhoods, especially from about 5 to 9 PM.
  • Watch intersections, medians and curbs.
  • Put the phone down.
